March Lessons

modified: Cha Cha on Wednesdays

Last week, Don Macdonald, along with his assistant Marcia, reviewed the Patty-Cake and Peek and Boo moves. Beginners just about got their Run-Run-Run sequence down perfectly.  Don then, with his assistant BJ, introduced a variation of the Paseo to the Intermediate dancers with the promise of a new syncopated move for the final lesson of the month. Come join us this Wednesday for more fun with Don and his Cha Cha as he concludes his March run of lessons.

When:   Wednesday, March 5,12,19,26                       

Where: The Centre at North Park

 

Beginner:                     7:30 – 8:25 pm

Intermediate:               8:35 – 9:30 pm

 

 

new:  Two Step on Friday, April 4

Join Jeff Sanchez as he takes us through the Two Step, Friday, April 4.  Jeff’s teaching ability allows all dancers (Beginners to Advanced) to feel comfortable and assured, as he teaches, reviews, and shares the building blocks that form this staple dance.

April Lessons

Jeff will also be teaching country’s core dance, the Two Step, during the month of April.

Two Step Lesson by Jeff Sanchez

Open Dancing:             9:00 – 12:00 am

To make the April 4th dance even more fun, there will be a 50/50 raffle.  Half the money will go to the raffle winner and the other half to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  And there's more... second prize will be a DVD player, third prize a dance video. There will be additional prizes as well. Please join us in supporting St. Judes. (Note: This is a make-up date as the raffle was postponed due to the cancellation of our March 21st dance.)

Congratulations to our SNC members and friends who competed at the Chicago Classic the weekend of March 14-16. Results are available online.

modified: March 28:  Friday. X Dance holds its regularly scheduled dance at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, IL 60131. A free Beginner Hustle lesson starts at approximately 7:30 pm. A Novice/Intermediate Hustle lesson follows from 8:00 – 9:00 pm. Both lessons will be taught by Angie Cameron. (map) 

March 29:  Saturday.  Christopher Hussey and Katrina Branson of Chi-Town Swing host a series of West Coast Swing workshops, a light dinner, and an open dance on Saturday at The Centre at North Park.  (details)

March 30:   Sunday.  Second Annual Diva Danceport Showcase and Dinner Dance.  Dance with Maren Oslac or Jeff Sanchez in the showcase and let the audience see what you know at Diamond Dancesport, 7767 W. 96th Place, Hickory Hills, Illinois.  The showcase will be held from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm.  At 6:00 pm, a four-course dinner is served. At 7:00 pm, open dancing starts, running through approximately 9:00 pm.

March 31:   Monday.  Spins and Turns. Maren Oslac teaches this class at Diamond Dancesport, 7767 W. 96th Place, Hickory Hills, Illinois. (details)

new:   April 5:  The Chicago Rebels hosts a Hustle party at The Centre at North Park. (map) A lesson will be taught at 8:00 pm, with open dancing following from 9:00 pm until midnight.

Thursdays: Maren Oslac began a new six-week session on April 3 at Diamond Dancesport, 7767 W. 96th PlaceHickory Hills, IL 60457 entitled Ballroom II (Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango) at 7:00 pm.  A six-week session of Ballroom I will immediately follow at 8:00 pm. Out-of-Town Happenings

new: March 28 - 29:  Riolo Dance Studio.  Indianapolis, Indiana. Maren Oslac travels to Riolo for two nights of swing-related dancing and private lessons.   (details) (map)

April 5:  Saturday.  Kim Beachy will be hosting a West Coast Swing Dance and Workshops at the Prairie Land Dance Club located at 650 W. Matilda, Illiopolis, Illinois  62539.  Two workshops will be held concurrently before the dance:   Beginners with Kim and Intermediate/Advanced with Tim Auclair.   Lessons begin at 8:00 pm.  Open dancing is from 9:00 pm until midnight. Several SNC members are planning a trip to this event. If you’re interested in joining a group of fellow dancers for this mini road trip, please contact Julie Hein.  (map)

April 4 – 6:  Michigan Classic Dance Championships.  Doubletree Hotel, Dearborn, Michigan.   Weekend pass includes all workshops, dances, competitions and pizza parties.  Event director is Phil Dorroll.   (details)

April 11 – 13:  Oklahoma Dance Rush.   Biltmore Hotel, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  The former Gateway Event (St. Louis) has moved to Oklahoma City.  This event is offering Pre-Newcomer Pro-Am Division and Starter Division, for those who’d like to get their toes wet.  Event director is Beth Emerson. April 11 – 13:  Los Angeles Premier Classic.  Sheraton Gateway, Los Angeles, California.  The event features a special cocktail party for Pro Am competitors.  Event Directors are Ronnie DeBenedetta and Brandi Tobias. (details)

April 18 – 20:  Indy Swing Classic.  Indianapolis, Indiana.  Event Directors:  Scott Mercer and Trevor Fulk.  This swing event is advertised as 50 hours of dancing with two short naps. You’ll see a lot of Chicago folks at last year’s event if you watch this YouTube,   (details)

April 2427: Swing Dance America.  Milwaukee Hilton City Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Lots of food will be served at this event.  There is a Friday night Pizza party and a Saturday night buffet.  Your emcees will be Robert Royston and Jimmy Mulligan.   (details)
