Double Two During May


modified:  This week marks the beginning of Hania Richmond’s Double Two lessons. Hania’s most recent teaching engagements have included Swing ‘n’ Country, X Dance and Genesis. Additionally, she recently took the top teacher award at the Los Angeles Classic.  Join us this Wednesday as Hania shows how to glide smoothly around the floor to the upbeat tempos of the Double Two.

modified:  May 16:  Friday.   Swing ’n’ Country’s Gently Used Clothing Sale is only a week away.  Men and women can recycle those dance clothes and footwear that you haven’t worn in months. Here are a couple of guidelines in getting your items ready for the sale:


  • Bring your items priced and on hangers.
  • The suggested pricing for blouses and shirts is $3.00 or less; the suggested pricing for pants is $7.00 or less.
  • Specialty items (competition wear, boots and shoes, etc.) can be priced per the seller’s option.
  • Attach a piece of paper to each item indicating your name, a description of the item and the price.

new:  Heart and Sole Dance is opening its own studio in Tinley Park in June. Change is in the air as Heart and Sole expands its promotion of country, hustle, and many other dances in the Chicago area. One thing that won’t change is the location of the current monthly dances and lessons in Hickory Hills. Learn more at the Heart and Sole Web site, and congratulations to Maren and Jeff (two of Swing ‘n’ Country’s instructors).

Special guest instructors, Ben Morris and Melina Ramirez, will be in town to teach both the Thursday night workshop and the Friday night West Coast Swing lesson. (map)

Thursdays: Maren Oslac continues teaching her latest six-week session at Diamond Dancesport, 7767 W. 96th PlaceHickory Hills, IL 60457 entitled Ballroom II (Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango) at 7:00 pm.  A six-week session of Ballroom I will immediately follow at 8:00 pm. May 4:   Simply Swing Dance in Mishawaka, Indiana, features all forms of Swing dancing at its dances.  BK Club, 721 S. West Street, Mishawaka, Indiana.  Dancing from 3:00 pm to 6 pm.  Lesson begins at 3:30 pm.  (map)  (details)

May 30 – June 1:  Circle City Classic.  Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel & Suites.  Indianapolis, Indiana.  Event Directors:  Mark Bradburn, Melissa Culbertson, Dennis & Carol Waite.  Featured instructors are Jordan Frisbee and Tatiana Mollman. This is a fully sanctioned UCWDC world-qualifying event which is only a three to four hour drive from the Chicago area.  Come support this brand new event while cheering on your SNC friends and enjoying a multitude of workshops.  What a wonderful way to start out your summer!  (map)  (details) 

June 12 – 14:  Brickyard Boogie 2008.  Ramada Inn.  Indianapolis, Indiana.  Event Director:  Michael Lamb.  This event is a no competition, strictly social dancing weekend.   Although West Coast Swing will be the primary focus, there will be a sprinkling of Bop/Boogie, East Coast, Hustle, Night Club, Cha Cha, Salsa, Waltz, and Two Step.  Of course, special requests will be obliged also.  (details)  

June 13 – 15:  Orange Blossom Dance Festival.  Marriott Orlando Airport.   Orlando, Florida.   Event Director:  Shawn Swaithes.  This UCWDC sanctioned event was voted “2007 Favorite North American Event”.  Sunday night will wrap up with an excursion to Disney's Pleasure Island Adult Park.  Many of our SNC competitors have voted to attend this one!
