Happy Independence Day from your editors, Julie, Ken and Judi.  Happenings will be taking a two-week vacation beginning July 1 and will return on July 15.    Keep on dancin’!

modified: Night Club Lessons Finishes at SNC

It’s the last week of Julie Hein’s Night Club lessons on Wednesday night and also the last week of our lesson season.  Last week Julie aided by her assistant, Don Leynes, taught the Beginners an easily-lead full-phrased amalgamation.  The Intermediate class had it just a bit tougher when the leads learned to syncopate in order complete a changing-sides shadow move.   Thanks to both of these great teachers for not only showing moves but also sharing the secrets of how to make them pretty and interlacing.

Wanted:  Parade Marchers!

July 4:  Friday.   Swing’n’Country is marching in its first parade on Independence Day!   Helping the Village of Oakbrook Terrace celebrate its 50th anniversary, dancers will gather at 11:00 am for the one-mile parade route.  SNC will provide the music; you’re invited to provide the dancing!  Free picnic for marchers!  Contact Tina Reitz for details or to volunteer.

July 18: Friday

Swing ‘n’ Country is moving its “picnic” indoors!  Join your friends at the Centre at North Park for pizza, games and frivolity and an entry-free Two Step Jack and Jill with prizes compliments of SNC.  Oh yeah.  And open dancing!  Festivities begin at 7:30 pm.  Entry fee for the mid-summer celebration will be the same as our regular Friday night dances.    Flyer  (map)

August 1:  Swing N Country. Friday night dance. More information to come soon.  You asked for summer dances.  You got ‘em!    Gear up for the Chicagoland Dance Festival, later in August, with your SNC friends.

Thank you

A big thank you to Jill Popovich for her lesson last Friday night.   Jill gave us all an interesting and fun exercise routine that will help with all of our dances.    The session includes exercises to help us gain better balance, to use our arms with flair, to do funky footwork and last, but not least, a great exercise to improve our chenee  turns.

Thank You

Thanks to all those who contributed to the support of the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry at last Friday’s dance.   The food drive was quite a success (approximately 150 cans) and will be appreciated by many.
