Chicagoland:  An Overview of Saturday

Saturday day is jam packed full of workshops with classes designed for everyone from the absolute beginner to the intermediate/advanced.    You can actually be a student of the dance from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm.  The list of both out of town and local instructors amazing.    Take a peek for yourselves!   The entire schedule will be on the Chicagoland Dance Festival web site by August 1.

Pro-Am competitions also begin on Saturday morning.  Your SNC competitors would really appreciate a little whooping and hollering as they put out their very best for the test!

Saturday evening begins with Open Dancing at 7:00 pm and continues in one or both of the ballrooms non-stop into the wee hours of the morning. Give your tootsies a break and watch the exhibitions, master solos and show dances at 8:00 pm.   Jack & Jill finals are just as much fun to watch as to compete.  These are scheduled for about 10:30 pm.

Volunteers are always needed to set up the cityscape backdrop and the floor on Thursday night and to take them down on Sunday afternoon.  During the weekend, volunteers are needed for a variety of fun stuff. More details are available here. Contact Julie Hein or Jennifer Jeffries for specifics.

“Economics of Dance Events” Reminder. Room nights make ballroom space, workshop rooms and other amenities possible.  “Heads-in-beds” means the hotel gives more things at less expense to the event which helps keep event rates to you lower.  There are perks for Chicago residents, too!  Is there anything worse than leaving a party early ‘cause you have to drive home?  Get a room and you can dance later into the night because you don’t have to drive home!  You can have a cocktail because you don’t have to drive home!  Share a room with a friend and the cost is even more reasonable.  You could even glimpse Jennifer walking Max in her jammies.  This Crowne Plaza virtual tour will show you just how comfy your nap can be!

News Flash!  The following just in from Jennifer:

“BIG schedule change for this year:  Masters will dance part of their program at 4PM on Saturday.  This is MAJOR 'cause I don't want SNC folks to miss this!!  Showcase Masters will dance their 2S and Waltz; Classic Masters will dance their 2-flight, 8 dance format.  The solos and show dances will be in the show, which starts at 8PM.  Also in the 4P session:  Showcase Open (with Carlos and Alisa) and our junior couple, Jacob and Hayley, who may just steal the show!!

We need about 25 more room nights to cover our...obligations! We're gettin' there.  The event is shaping up beautifully and we are SO excited to bring great dancers to Chicago - and to show the rest of the circuit what great dancers there are IN Chicago! :-)

Big hug~

Jen
