Chicagoland:  An Overview of Sunday

We’ll get to Sunday in a minute.  Here are some updates from Randy and Jennifer:

·      The workshop schedule has been posted!  Check it out, plan your day(s), and be ready for an over-the-edge Chicagoland weekend!

·      Deadline for room reservations is this Wednesday, August 6 so, in good Chicago fashion, reserve your room early and often!

·      Parking at the hotel is a bargain this year:  $8/night for all Chicagoland attendees.  At an O’Hare area hotel, this is miraculous!

·      Competition deadlines are looming:  Monday, August 11 for UCWDC Pro Am and Swing/Hustle Pro Am.  Friday, August 15 at 7:00 pm for Swing/Hustle Jack & Jill, Strictly Swing/Hustle, and UCWDC couples.

·      Registration:  Haven’t gotten around to it?  What’s holding you up?  You can even do it online and pay at the event!

About Sunday:

It really doesn’t matter how late you stayed up on Saturday night; the workshops will begin at 10:00 am, with or without you.  They run until 2:00 pm, so if you drink your Starbucks and can remember where you put your dance shoes at 3:00 am, you’ll be able to get a few more workshops in on Sunday.

Pro-Am Dancers will up early for sure; they collect their awards at 9:00 am, with or without dance shoes.  If you cheered for them while they competed, you should certainly be there when they receive their award!

Late morning and early afternoon will feature competition in all Couples divisions (except Division I and Showcase), followed by the “offered by popular demand” Pro Am Swing Spotlight and Strictly Swing and Hustle.  What a show it’s going to be!

When all is said and done (and more awards are given), you’ll head home, giddy and exhausted, vowing to do it all again next year.

In the meantime…

Volunteers are always needed to set up the cityscape backdrop and the floor on Thursday night and to take them down on Sunday afternoon.  During the weekend, volunteers are needed for a variety of fun stuff. More details are available here. Contact Julie Hein or Jennifer Jeffries for specifics.

“Economics of Dance Events” Reminder. Room nights make ballroom space, workshop rooms and other amenities possible.  “Heads-in-beds” means the hotel gives more things at less expense to the event which helps keep event rates to you lower.  There are perks for Chicago residents, too!  Is there anything worse than leaving a party early ‘cause you have to drive home?  Get a room and you can dance later into the night because you don’t have to drive home!  You can have a cocktail because you don’t have to drive home!  Share a room with a friend and the cost is even more reasonable.  You could even glimpse Jennifer walking Max in her jammies.  This Crowne Plaza virtual tour will show you just how comfy your nap can be!

August 22:  Friday.  X Dance holds a dance at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, IL 60131.  Doors open at 7:00 pm, with a lesson at 8:00 pm.  General dancing runs from 9:00 pm until midnight.  (map)

August 23:     Saturday.   The Chicago Rebels hold a dance at The Centre at North Park 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park.  Lessons are from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm with Carlos Garcia, followed by open dancing until midnight. (map)

August 23:  Saturday.   Heart Sole Dance sponsors a Nascar (Genesis) Dance at Diamond Dance Studio, 7767 W. 96th Place, Hickory Hills, IL 60457.    Following a Cha Cha lesson at 8:00 pm., there will be general dancing until midnight.  (map)

August 23:  Saturday.  Brian Wong, editor of Chicago Dance News, hosts a Double Dance at Ballroom City, 207 Villa Avenue, Villa Park, Illinois 60181.   Brian has figured out how to put on a fantastic mix of Country, Ballroom and Swing music and provides a really cool pre-printed play list.   Double Dance is held the on the last Saturday of each month.  (map)
