modified:   If you haven’t made your reservations for SNC’s holiday dinner/dance, scheduled for Friday, December 5, you have a reprieve!  You can reserve a spot at Wednesday’s lesson or at Friday’s dance.  Don’t miss this annual gala–a great start to the holiday season and SNC’s only dance in December.

Jill Popovich continues Nightclub lessons on Wednesday nights as she gives Beginner dancers some cool options to basic moves and Intermediate dancers something to show off. 

As always, you can save registration time by downloading the form for a monthly package or single lesson and having it ready at the door.

modified:  Carlos Garcia Returns for Two Step Lesson

November 21.  Fresh from his month-long stint teaching Wednesday nights in October, Carlos Garcia is set to make another visit to Swing’n’Country.   Carlos and his partner, Alisa, will be presenting their Two Step choreography at the World’s UCWDC competition in January.

Toys for Tots

November 21: Please bring new unwrapped toys to the dance on November 21, 2008 and/or the Holiday Dance on December 5, 2008. Toys for Tots was originated by the United States Marine Corps.  The first toy donated was a Raggedy Ann Doll.  Walt Disney was asked to create posters supporting this campaign and he designed the red train logo that represents Toys for Tots.  Toys are needed for infants through teenagers.

November 22:  Saturday.  Brian Wong, editor of Chicago Dance News, hosts a Double Dance at Ballroom City, 207 Villa Avenue, Villa Park, Illinois 60181.   The month’s theme is Thanksgiving Formal.  Guests are requested to dress their best.  Both swing music and country music will be played.    (map)

new:  December 6: Friday.   Heart Sole Dance sponsors three workshops by Gary Ulaner, National Hustle Champion, at the Centre at North Park, 10400 Addison Road, Franklin Park, IL.  The workshops will be at 4:00 pm and 5:15 pm, with a break for dinner, followed by an 8:00 pm workshop prior to the Rebels dance.  See Gary on YouTube. new:  December 6: Friday.  The Rebels  host their annual Holiday Dance.  Uniting with Heart and Sole Dance, they present Gary Ulaner, national Hustle Champion, who will teach Hustle from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  (see above)  General dancing immediately follows at 9:00 pm.  Workshops and dance will be at the Centre at North Park, 10400 Addison Road, Franklin Park, IL.  (map)  

 

new:  December 6: Saturday.  Kim Beachy hosts a West Coast Swing workshop and dance at  the Prairie Land Dance Club, 650 W. Matilda, Illiopolis, Illinois 62539.    Two workshops will be held concurrently at 7:00 pm, with the dance immediately following. Beginners will be taught by Kim Beachy; Intermediate/Advanced by Matt Auclair.  This facility has a 1000 sq ft dance floor! 

 

December 67:   Current US Open Showcase Champions Parker Dearborn and Jessica Cox will be in town to teach.  Workshops are sponsored by May I Have This Dance, 5246 N. Elston, 2nd Floor, Chicago, Illinois, 60630. (map) (details)

new:  December 12:  Friday.  X Dance holds a dance at The Centre at North Park 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, IL 60131.  Doors open at 7:00 pm, with a lesson at 8:00 pm.  General dancing runs from 9:00 pm until midnight. Please note that this is the only X Dance event in December.  (map)

Mondays:  Jill Popovich teaches Pilates in Arlington Heights starting at 7:00 pm.  Pilates will help dancers of all levels learn to move their bodies more efficiently, resulting in smoother dancing, longer endurance, and more flexibility. You will feel better too!  Contact Jill to learn more or for directions to the class.

 

Wednesdays: SNC Wednesday lessons feature Jill Popovich teaching Nightclub in November.

 

Thursdays:  Maren Oslac teaches a four-week series of Two Step classes through the month of November at Heart & Sole Dance Studio, 7038 183rd St., Tinley Park. Two Step 101 begins at 7:00 pm, and Two Step 102 at 8:00 pm.  (map)

new:  Results from Dallas Dance Festival, held this past weekend in Dallas, Texas, and the Tampa Bay Classic, held this past weekend in Tampa Bay, Florida, will be available soon.     Congratulations to our SNC members and friends who competed.

November 28 - 30:  C.A.S.H. Bash.  Hilton Garden Inn.  Twinsburg, Ohio.  Brought to you by Cleveland-Akron Swing and Hustle Club. (details).   This event would be a great road trip after those Thanksgiving dishes are done.   Dance your mash potatoes and gravy right off!

November 27 – 30:  US Open Swing Dance Championships.  Marriott Hotel, Anaheim, California.  MC is Robert Royston. The best of the best will be competing here!   (details)

January 23 – 25, 2009:  Mario in Chicago.  Friday-Sunday workshops.  DanceMasters sponsors a whole weekend of our favorite Swing Daddy, Mario Robau.  Centre at North Park, Franklin Park, Illinois.

February 12 – Jan 15, 2009 Capital Swing.  Radisson Hotel and Convention Center, Sacramento, California. The Chicago Rebels has a table for the event. If you would like to purchase a ticket, contact Nancy Tuzzolino.

March 13 – 15, 2009:   The Chicago Classic returns for its second year.   Sponsored by the Chicago Swing Dance Foundation, The Classic brings the best and the brightest of West Coast Swing to Chicago.  

April 23 – 26, 2009:   Swing Dance America 2009. Grand Geneva Resort and Spa, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Lots of workshops, lots of open dancing, competitions in both Swing and Hustle in two ballrooms.
