Julie Hein brings in March Like a Lion

Will she send it out like a lamb?  Our Double Two leads and follows were treated to “really gross jokes for all” (direct quote from the teacher).  The Beginners were shown how to make their basics look smooth and the Intermediate follows were shown how chane′ turns can give their leaders a chance to cut to the inside to close smoothly.

Join Julie and her assistant Don for more fun (and jokes) with the Double Two during the month of March.

new:  How Breath Breathes Life Into The Dance

All dance, all movement, all human life, begin the same way: with a breath. Whether we are aware of it or not -- the rise and fall of the chest caused by our breathing informs everything we do. We often take it for granted.  Holding the breath creates a stifled, lifeless dancer. By connecting to the breath, dancers reaffirm their most basic human ability and connect with fellow dancers (as well as their audiences).

modified:  March 13 – 15, 2009:   The Chicago Classic returns for its second year to the Marriott-Chicago O’Hare, 8535 W. Higgins Road, Chicago, Illinois, 60631.   Sponsored by the Chicago Swing Dance Foundation, the Classic brings the best and the brightest of West Coast Swing to Chicago.  Bonus:    Dance Camp Chicago’s very own Jennifer Jeffries will once again emcee, and over $18,000 in prize money is offered to some of the hottest competition dancing you’ll see.  Jason Barnes and Erica Berg, who have previously taught at Swing ‘n’ Country, will be teaching at the Chicago Classic.  (map) (details)

March 21: Saturday.   The Chicago Rebels will hold a West Coast Swing party at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave, Franklin Park, IL  60131.  Carlos Garcia will teach a West Coast Swing lesson from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Open dancing will follow until midnight.  (map)

Mondays:  Jill Popovich teaches Pilates in Arlington Heights starting at 7:00 pm.  Pilates helps dancers of all levels learn to move their bodies more efficiently, resulting in smoother dancing, longer endurance, and more flexibility. Thursdays:  Maren Oslac teaches a four-week series of Nightclub through the month of March at Heart & Sole Dance Studio, 7038 183rd St., Tinley Park, Illinois, 60477. Nightclub 101 begins at 7:30 pm, and Nightclub 102 at 8:30 pm.  (map)

April 23 – 26, 2009:   Swing Dance America 2009. Grand Geneva Resort and Spa, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Lots of workshops, lots of open dancing, competitions in both Swing and Hustle in two ballrooms. May 15-17, 2009:   Kristin & Monte Ham Private Lessons.  Ballroom City, Villa Park, Illinois.  Book a private lesson with Chicago favorites by contacting Susie Kaplan.  (map) Kristin & Monte will also be teaching at the SNC dance on Friday, May 15.

July 2 - 4, 2009:   Sweet Home Chicago.  Wyndham Hotel O’Hare.  Party, dance, eat, dance, shop, dance (no competition) with the folks from the Windy City Jitterbug Club.

July 11, 2009:   WWII USO themed Swing Dance.  Green Bay, Wisconsin.  Hosted by the National Railroad Museum. The event includes a live swing band, cash bar, food, and WWII re-enactors. Contact Jacqueline Frank for more information. (map)

July 17-19, 2009: The North East Wisconsin Rebels Swing Dance Club presents the 18th annual Wisconsin Dance Challenge. Radisson Hotel, Green Bay, WI.  Doug Rousar, Event Director.

August 21 - 23, 2009:  Chicagoland Dance Festival.  Crown Plaza Chicago O’Hare.  Look forward to workshops, open dancing and competitions at CDF.  See if its reputation as an event that is fun to the MAX is true.

August 27 - 30, 2009:  Swingin’ Dance Party.  Drawbridge Inn, Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky.  Thirteen hours of workshops and open dancing with no competition.  Staff includes Maren Oslac and Jeff Sanchez.
