new:  Gently Used Clothing and Accessory Sale at May 1st Dance

Let’s Go Green


Swing ’n’ Country’s fourth annual Gently Used Clothing Sale is at our May 1st Dance.  This year we’re adding jewelry to the items. In the interest of recycling and finding some new treasures, here’s your opportunity.

Guidelines to the sale are:

  • Bring items in excellent condition on hangers with your name and asking price attached.
  • Jewelry to be brought in zip-lock bags with your name and asking price zipped inside.
  • No early birds (sorry). Sale begins when lesson is over and runs until 10:30 pm
  • Cash Only.
  • Sellers must pick up unsold items at 10:30 pm.

Results of 50/50 Raffle  - April 17 Dance


Swing ‘n’ Country collected $224 at the 50/50 Raffle.  First place winner was Richard McFarland.  Richard re-gifted the money back to SNC (what a guy!).   Second place winner was Christine Karczewski who will have one month’s of free Wednesday dance lessons.  Third place winner was William Blanchard who will come to his next SNC dance free!   Thanks to all who participated.

April 23 – 26:   Swing Dance America 2009. Grand Geneva Resort and Spa, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Lots of workshops, lots of open dancing, competitions in both Swing and Hustle in two ballrooms. May 2:     Saturday.   The Chicago Rebels hold a dance at The Centre at North Park 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park.  Lessons are from 8:00 pm to 9:00, followed by open dancing until midnight. (map)

May 29-31:  Circle City Classic.   Marriott, Indianapolis, Indiana.  Fully-sanctioned UCWDC event.    We have SNC members competing at this one.

Mondays:  Jill Popovich teaches Pilates in Arlington Heights starting at 7:00 pm.  Pilates helps dancers of all levels learn to move their bodies more efficiently, resulting in smoother dancing, longer endurance, and more flexibility. June 11 - August 23:  Chicago Summer Dance Festival.  Grant Park. Group dance instruction in everything from ballroom to country line dancing on a 3,500 square foot open-air floor at the Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park

July 2 - 4:   Sweet Home Chicago.  Wyndham Hotel O’Hare.  Party, dance, eat, dance, shop, dance (no competition) with the folks from the Windy City Jitterbug Club. Julie Hein is a featured instructor.

July 11:   WWII USO themed Swing Dance.  Green Bay, Wisconsin.  Hosted by the National Railroad Museum. The event includes a live swing band, cash bar, food, and WWII re-enactors. Contact Jacqueline Frank for more information. (map)

modified July 17 - 19: The North East Wisconsin Rebels Swing Dance Club presents the 9th annual Wisconsin Dance Challenge. Radisson Hotel, Green Bay, WI.  Event Directors are Vivian Hahn and Doug Rousar. Contact Leah Noparstak if you’d like to be part of the SNC table.

August 21 - 23:  Chicagoland Dance Festival.  Crown Plaza Chicago O’Hare.  Look forward to workshops, open dancing and competitions at CDF.  See if its reputation as an event that is fun to the MAX is true.

August 27 - 30:  Swingin’ Dance Party.  Drawbridge Inn, Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky.  Thirteen hours of workshops and open dancing with no competition.  Staff includes Maren Oslac and Jeff Sanchez.  Contact Maren to sit at a table with your Chicago friends.
