The schedule may be altered for a couple of months, but there are still Swing ‘n’ Country dances during the summer months. This Friday, July 24, SNC hosts a pizza party. Come get your dance fix, while enjoying a slice or two of pizza on the club.

We’d like to remind everyone that there are no Wednesday night lessons for the months of July and August.  Lessons will resume in September, when Hania Richmond teaches a month of Two Step.

new:   Love n’ Dancing Screening on August 17

Many of the area dance clubs, including SNC, are co-sponsoring a showing of the new film “Love N’ Dancing.”  It will be held at Durty Nellie’s in Palatine on Monday, August 17th. In addition to the showing, there will be a raffle with prizes for those that purchase early-bird tickets only; after the movie, there will be open dancing. Tickets are available to order online.

Other Chicagoland Happenings

modified:   August 21 - 23:  Chicagoland Dance Festival.  If it’s August in Chicago, it must be time for one of the dance communities’ favorite events. Directors Randy and Jennifer Jeffries are back, providing a weekend of open dancing, competitions, dancing, duck jokes, and last but not least, dancing.

Here’s a quick rundown of the event:

·        A Friday night pizza party sponsored by SNC.

·        Two ballrooms of dancing.

·        All UCWDC divisions are being offered.

·        Complimentary score reports for all UCWDC divisions

·        A WSDC Jack & Jill competition.

·        A Pro-Am Swing & Hustle competition.

·        Strictly Swing and Classic Open Swing Challenges

·        Dedicated practice space for competitors

·        Cash prizes for UCWDC Masters, Open Division 1 and Top Pro-Am Instructors, Classic Open Swing, Swing Jack & Jill, Strictly Swing and Pro-Am Swing.

June 11 - August 23:  Chicago Summer Dance Festival.  Grant Park. Group dance instruction in everything from ballroom to country line dancing on a 3,500 square foot open-air floor at the Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park.

new:  July 25:  Saturday.   The Chicago Rebels hold a dance at The Centre at North Park 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park.  Lessons are from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm, followed by open dancing until midnight. (map)

new:  July 25:  Saturday.  Brian Wong, editor of Chicago Dance News, hosts a Double Dance at Ballroom City, 207 Villa Avenue, Villa Park, 60181.  (map)

August 8:  Saturday.  Studio Viva presents a Swing and Hustle Dance from 8:00pm- Midnight.   Studio is located at 41 E.  Northwest Hwy, Palatine, 60067.  (map)

new:  September 19:  Saturday.  The Jack & Jill contest returns to the Chicago Rebels.  More information will be available in the near future.

new:  Mondays:  Maren Oslac teaches a four-week series of West Coast Swing through the month of August at Heart & Sole Dance Studio, 7038 183rd St., Tinley Park, 60477. WCS 101 begins at 7:00 pm and is followed by WCS 102 at 8:00 pm.  (map)   

Mondays:  Jill Popovich teaches Pilates in Arlington Heights starting at 7:00 pm.  Pilates helps dancers of all levels learn to move their bodies more efficiently, resulting in smoother dancing, longer endurance, and more flexibility. You will feel better too!  Contact Jill to learn more or for directions to the class.

Mondays:  Alisa Winkler teaches beginner West Coast Swing during the month of July from 7:00 - 8:00 pm at Sonia’s Dance Rhythm, 534 W. Wise Rd. Schaumburg.  (map) (details)

Out of Town Happenings

August 27 – 30:  Swingin’ Dance Party.  Drawbridge Inn, Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky.  Thirteen hours of workshops and open dancing with no competition.  Staff includes Maren Oslac and Jeff Sanchez.  Contact Maren to sit at a table with your Chicago friends.

 

August 5: Sugar Creek Road, a country/Americana band, will be featured at Clarendon Hills' 10th annual Dancin' in the Streets. Join your friends for an early evening (6:30-9:00 pm) of dancing. Wear your SNC "colors" (t-shirt) as we’ll be promoting our club. Julie Hein and Kathy Poppke are the organizers. Dancing is literally IN the street. Wear boots/shoes that are asphalt-friendly.

October 30-Nov 1:  Swing City Chicago.  The Westin Lombard.  World Swing Dance Council.  Spend ten minutes with a pro and make a difference:  The All-Star Studded Hour is back!  Hosted by Maren Oslac, Jeff Sanchez and Julie Hein.

January 4 – January 10, 2010:  Worlds XVII Country Dance World Championships.  Opryland, Nashville, Tennessee.

February 19 – 21, 2010:  Let’s Dance Camp. Details coming soon.
